Does Daylight Savings Time Affect Your Schedule?!
Daylight Savings Time— Who loves it?! I have never been a fan of “springing forward” because you lose an hour of sleep. And let’s be real- sleep is a hot commodity and I don’t enjoy giving it up. Are you with me?!
Well, this is my first DST with VIPKID, and I can honestly say that I didn’t think about how the time change would affect my schedule; and, to be honest, it really has messed it up.
So, let me explain how it works and how it could change your bookings. I am in EST zone. Before springing forward, the time difference between me and China was 13 hours. So, when I opened bookings starting at 5:00 am, it was classes beginning at 6:00 pm for my sweet students. After the spring forward, the time difference is only 12 hours, making my 5:00 am classes now 5:00 pm classes. I had a few regulars that I taught at the same time every few days. Well, that regular time then turned into an hour earlier for them, even though it didn’t change my schedule at all. Therefore, the parents that once booked you consistently during your 7:00 am slot (8:00 pm BJT) have to change their booking time to 7:00 pm to keep you as a teacher— and for some, that just won’t work.
I had multiple priority booking requests for a certain time from my regulars and I just can’t teach that late in the morning. It is so sad for me and I’m hoping that they find a way to make it back on my schedule. If you are able to adjust your schedule to allow for your regulars to stay on your schedule, DO IT! If you just can’t swing it, do your best to explain to parents when/if you have to refuse a priority booking request and hope that they are able to make it work for them.
Have you had any changes to your schedule since springing forward? I’d love to hear from you about your experiences and how if/how you were able to keep a full schedule, even with the change in time.
