Are You Getting Booked?
Ok. Let’s have a moment of honesty. VIPKID can be hard and discouraging, especially in the beginning. It’s hard to see other teachers have so much success when you’re struggling to get booked for the first time. It’s hard to see people post pictures on Monday morning of their booking frenzies when you only got 5 bookings. It’s hard to know what to do to make yourself look more attractive to the parents when you feel you’ve exhausted all your resources and followed all of the advice you’ve been given from more experienced teachers.
But, I am here to tell you- it will come! I have been with VIPKID for 4 months now! It has gone by so fast, but I didn’t have much success until very recently… and success isn’t measured the same for everyone. I signed my contract right after Thanksgiving. Excitement ran through my entire body! Except, the bookings didn’t come. For several weeks, I checked the app on my phone like it was going out of style. Well, I got lucky at Christmas time because, I’m assuming, lots of other teachers were taking some time off. I taught close to 25 classes during Christmas week. Then, I went back to no bookings. I only made $36 in January and I was beginning to feel like I was just not going to have any success at this whole “work from home” lifestyle. Well, February is a HUGE holiday month in China! So, by the third week of February, I had only taught 3 classes. But, all of the sudden, the last week of February, things just turned around for me. If you want to know how I started seeing more bookings, check out this post here.
It took me a full three months to have a consistent schedule with VIPKID.
In the month of March, I’ve had consistent bookings and I even had several regulars… until the time change a few weeks ago. Even with the time change, I have managed to have a consistent schedule, even though it isn’t with the few students that I was seeing on a regular basis. I’m pretty bummed that I haven’t seen my few favorites the last two weeks, but I do know that there are always changes with this job and I’m thankful for the opportunity to teach these kids.
So, friends, be patient. If you’re still waiting on your first booking, or you’re just wanting to get a more consistent schedule, do what you can to make yourself stick out to parents and then just wait. It’s hard to do, but when the bookings come, it will be so worth it and you will have a blast!
How have you done with VIPKID? Share with me in the comments. I’d love to hear!
